What sources does Richmond Senior Advisor rely on?
Our sources are primary: the Code of Virginia and the State Board of Social Services' standards (22VAC40-73 and 22VAC40-80), VDSS's assisted living facility search and inspection records, DMAS for Medicaid and the CCC Plus Waiver, DARS for the Auxiliary Grant, ombudsman and Adult Protective Services, VA for pension rates, CMS for nursing homes, and CareScout for cost medians.
Secondary sites such as aggregators and news stories may point us to a topic, but they are never the source of a published fact.
Why don't we publish a Richmond assisted living price or a memory care median?
Because no primary source publishes one: CareScout reports Virginia statewide medians only, and it does not survey memory care as a category anywhere, so any precise Richmond or memory care figure would be invented.
We show the statewide figures with their dates and explain how to get real quotes in writing.
How is the facility directory built?
The directory is built entirely from bulk official data -- every facility on VDSS's licensed assisted living roster for our twelve localities with its posted inspections, and every CMS-certified nursing home with CMS's own ratings -- and each page states the source and the data date.
We do not accept payment for placement in the directory, and partner status never changes how a facility is shown.
Do partner communities influence what we write?
No. Partner relationships do not change any facility's directory listing, inspection data or the guidance on our rule, cost and comparison pages, and partners do not review content before it is published.
How do we handle mistakes and updates?
If you find an error, email advisors@richmondsenioradvisor.com with the page and the source; we check it against the primary record, correct it, and update the page's last-modified date, and we refresh the licensing and CMS data quarterly.
Cost, rule and program pages carry a "Last verified" line so you know when we last checked them.
What do we do when sources disagree?
When a state page, a regulation and a facility say different things, we follow the most authoritative primary source -- the regulation or statute over a summary page, the facility's state record over its marketing -- and note the discrepancy where it matters to a family's decision.
Dates matter as much as figures. Every program number on this site carries the period it applies to -- the 2026 Auxiliary Grant rate, the December 2025 to November 2026 VA pension year, the 2025 CareScout survey -- so you can tell at a glance whether a figure may have changed since.
Facility names, addresses and capacities are shown exactly as VDSS or CMS publishes them, even when a community markets itself under a different name.
