This directory is built only from official bulk data: the Virginia Department of Social Services assisted living roster and its posted inspections, and CMS Care Compare's provider file for nursing homes. No facility pays to appear, we do not add our own ratings, and every page shows the source and the date the data was pulled.

What is in the Richmond Senior Advisor directory?

Three lists built from official bulk data: 128 VDSS-licensed assisted living facilities, the 44 of them with special care units for dementia, and 37 CMS-certified nursing homes with CMS's star ratings, covering Richmond City and eleven surrounding counties and cities.

Listing tables are sortable by any column and filterable by locality, license term, memory care designation or CMS rating, so you can, for example, list every special care unit in Henrico by size, or every nursing home rated four stars or higher.

How are licensed facilities spread across the Richmond region?

Henrico, Hanover and Chesterfield hold most of the region's licensed assisted living, while Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent and Prince George have no VDSS-licensed assisted living facility at all, so families there usually look one county over.

Why do some facilities have profile pages and others do not?

Profiles exist for the larger licensed facilities whose VDSS record carries enough structured detail -- capacity, care levels, license term and a multi-year inspection history -- to say something useful; smaller homes appear as full rows in every table but not as separate pages.

Every row, profiled or not, shows the same official fields: capacity, care levels, special care unit, VDSS facility number, license term and expiration, last inspection date and citations.

How current is the directory data?

The VDSS and CMS data were pulled in October 2026 and are refreshed quarterly; VDSS posts new inspection results within about five business days of the facility receiving them, so check the state search for anything newer before you decide.
